Summary

Mia, a teen in Sunday school, is determined to film a quick Mother’s Day video: “TikTok Make: The Bad Joke Challenge.” The plan is simple—moms tell a “bad joke,” and Mia rates each one for cringe. Her mom, Alice Moore, is thrilled to participate and treats “cringe” like a spiritual gift. She arrives overprepared, fully committed to awkward punchlines, dramatic poses, and “content ideas” Mia did not approve. Mia tries to keep everything polished—good lighting, clean audio, and a tight runtime—because she wants the video to look perfect and go viral.

Then Ruth, an older mother (Alice’s mom), steps in and insists she doesn’t do “internet.” She keeps interrupting the filming with real-life mom instincts, offering snacks, passing out birthday cards “just in case,” and asking if anyone has eaten. The more Mia tries to control the moment, the more it becomes something better than content: a genuine, hilarious memory. When Ruth casually says, “A grateful heart doesn’t need perfect lighting,” Mia realizes she’s been chasing performance over presence. The skit ends with laughter, a quieter kind of joy, and Mia deciding to keep the moment for herself instead of social media.

Theme

Presence over performance: choosing connection, gratitude, and love instead of turning every moment into “content.”
