WHAT:
Three wise men set out to follow a bright star announcing the birth of the King. But instead of traveling the ancient way, they use a modern “Star Tracking App” on their phones. The app constantly glitches: redirecting them to the wrong towns, giving wrong distances, and sending them on long detours. They bicker about directions, debate whether “recalculating” is a judgmental word, and argue over whose phone has the best battery life.
When all the phones die, they finally do what they should have done all along—look up, follow the real star, and trust God’s guidance.
THEMES:
Trust · God’s Guidance · Patience · Wisdom · Faith over Technology
WHO (4–5 ACTORS):
-
Wise Man 1 (Caspar) — confident, thinks he knows the way
-
Wise Man 2 (Melchior) — dramatic, panics easily
-
Wise Man 3 (Balthazar) — sarcastic, tech-savvy, easily annoyed
-
GPS Voice — robotic, glitchy; can be played live by an actor onstage, offstage, or through a speaker
-
Optional role: Herod’s Messenger or Random Shepherd for a short cameo
COSTUMES:
Robes, crowns or turbans, bags for gifts, sneakers for comedy, phones or tablets.
PROPS:
Phones/tablets, “Star Tracking App” signs, maps, gold box, frankincense jar, myrrh container, flashlight for the star, camel puppet or stick.
WHY:
To help young people understand that God’s path isn’t always obvious, predictable, or digital — but He leads faithfully.
HOW:
Stage left: “traveling path” with rocks, signs. Stage right: moments where GPS glitches. Backdrop: large star prop. Lights brighten whenever they “look up” at the real star.
TIME:
~10 minutes
