  • Young Eli – A traveling boy searching for purpose;he  softens the hearts of the wise men.

  • King Herod – Intimidating but insecure ruler; uses manipulation masked as hospitality.

  • Herod’s Scribe – Formal, cautious, uneasy working under Herod.

  • Bethlehem Caravan Leader – A practical, direct traveler who gives the wise men advice.

  • Narrator – Helps guide the audience between scenes with clarity and insight.

  • Optional Extra Travelers – Silent or speaking roles to fill the caravan scenes.

Additional Characters:

  • Bethlehem Woman – A kind villager who helps guide the travelers.

How

  • Left side: A small palace area for Herod’s scenes

  • Center: A wide “road” marked by cloth or simple stones

  • Right side: Camp area with small mats, lanterns, and a star backdrop

  • A large star may hang above, glowing during key moments.

Movements remain simple: walking, sitting at camp, visiting Herod. Readers’ theatre-style dialogue makes the performance accessible even for young or new actors.
