Mournful Easter Drama
Summary of the Whole Play
This drama follows Jesus from trial to crucifixion through the eyes of those who made choices under pressure; chief priests guarding influence, Roman authorities guarding order, and ordinary people swept into a decision they did not realize would mark eternity. Barabbas appears briefly as a living picture of substitution and second chance: one guilty man walks free while an innocent man is condemned.
The play avoids spectacle. Instead, it relies on tight, weighty dialogue and brief scenes; courtroom, streets of Jerusalem, and Golgotha—to communicate the cost of Jesus’ suffering and the depth of his love. The resurrection is not staged visually; it is proclaimed through testimony and scripture readings in Part 2, making the production suitable for small churches with limited resources. The overall message is forgiveness of sins, new life, and the true meaning of Easter.
