The Stable Choir is a joyful, musical-style 15-minute Christmas play for children’s church services, Christian school assemblies, and small-church programs. Designed for a flexible cast of 10–20 actors, it follows a group of children who discover they’ve been chosen to sing near the manger on the night Jesus is born.

As the “Stable Choir” rehearses three simple songs—one of which can be an original piece written just for your church—characters like the angel Gabriel, shepherds, and wise men join them, all preparing to welcome the newborn Savior. The script gently weaves in the nativity story while highlighting themes of worship, courage, and offering our gifts to Jesus, no matter how small they seem.

With easy dialogue, short songs, and simple props like lanterns, scarves, and a star backdrop, this play is highly doable for busy leaders and mixed-age groups. Younger children can appear as angels or shepherds, while older kids take on speaking and solo parts.

The Stable Choir creates a warm, memorable Christmas experience that invites children and audiences alike to become part of the song of Christmas—lifting their voices in praise to Jesus, the true center of the celebration.

CAST OF CHARACTERS

• Narrator 1 – Main storyteller

• Narrator 2 – Assists, sets up songs (optional, can be combined with Narrator 1)

• Choir Director – Friendly, a little dramatic, leads the children’s choir

• Choir Kid 1 (Lena) – Eager, nervous about singing

• Choir Kid 2 (Max) – Goofy, loves rhythm, not so sure about words

• Choir Kid 3 (Sofia) – Quiet but has a beautiful voice

• Choir Kid 4 (Eli) – Confident, likes to help others

• Angel Gabriel – Warm, strong, explains the message clearly

• Shepherd 1, Shepherd 2, Shepherd 3 – Simple, joyful, a bit silly

• Wise Man 1, Wise Man 2, Wise Man 3 – Respectful, slightly formal, excited

• Mary – Gentle, calm

• Joseph – Protective, kind

• Star Bearer – Carries star on a stick or stands holding star prop

• Extra Angels / Choir Kids / Shepherds / Wise Men – To reach up to 20 actors

(You can combine roles if you have fewer children, or add more angels/choir kids if you have many.)

SETTING & PROPS

Stage Areas:

• Front / Center: “Rehearsal space” for the Stable Choir (simple risers or marked area)

• Side / Back: Manger scene with Mary, Joseph, and a manger

• Overhead or Backdrop: Star backdrop or large star prop

Simple Props:

• Lanterns (real or pretend)

• Scarves or simple choir sashes

• Star on a stick (for Star Bearer)

• Manger with baby doll

• Small boxes for wise men’s gifts

• Shepherd staffs (sticks)
