Genre: Christmas Comedy / Children’s Ministry Skit
Length: ~20 minutes
Cast: 3 actors (plus optional non-speaking sheep)
The Shepherd Who Lost a Sheep Again is a funny, tender Christmas skit designed especially for children’s ministry and younger audiences. The story follows Jonah, a well-meaning but easily-distracted shepherd who shows up late to the nativity—again—because, once more, he’s lost his sheep. His fellow shepherds Ruth and Abel are not surprised; “this is exactly what happened last year!”
As Jonah blames north pole winds, a sneaky goat, and even the wise men, the laughter builds. The missing sheep eventually reappears wearing a garland made from leftover decorations, delighting kids and adults alike.
Amid the humor, the skit gently shifts into a heartfelt moment at the manger. Jonah admits his mistakes, kneels before baby Jesus, and realizes that no matter how often he gets lost or distracted, God never stops seeking him or bringing him back.
This simple, easy-to-stage skit powerfully teaches children that God’s love is patient, forgiving, and constant—especially when we feel lost.
Moral Lesson: No matter how many times we wander, God lovingly brings us back.
Key Verse: Inspired by the heart of Luke 15 and the Good Shepherd who seeks the lost.
