Description

The Real Story of Christmas

The Real Story of Christmas is a 20-minute children’s Christmas play that zooms out from the manger to show the whole Bible story leading up to Jesus’ birth. Blending narration, short scenes, and Scripture readings, this script helps kids (and adults!) see that Christmas began long before Bethlehem—with God’s promises in the Old Testament.

Designed for a flexible cast of 14–24 actors, the play moves from Creation and the Fall, to God’s promise to Abraham, to prophetic voices like Isaiah and Micah, and finally into the familiar nativity scenes: Gabriel’s announcement to Mary, Joseph’s dream, the stable in Bethlehem, the angels and shepherds, and the wise men following the star with gifts for the newborn King.

Older children will enjoy longer speaking roles as narrators, prophets, and key Bible characters, while younger children shine as angels, stars, animals, and choir members in non-speaking or simple-response parts. The script is intentionally simple to stage, using just a few key props: a Bible scroll, manger, star cutouts, and wooden boxes for the wise men’s gifts.

The play concludes with classic Christmas carols led by a children’s choir, inviting the whole congregation to respond in worship. Ideal for church services, Christian school programs, and children’s Christmas outreaches, The Real Story of Christmas offers a clear, Christ-centered presentation that connects the dots from God’s ancient promises to the birth of Jesus—helping kids understand why Christmas truly matters.
