“The Prayer Challenge” is a 15-minute youth drama-comedy where teens start a viral-style “pray the fastest” challenge—then realize prayer isn’t a performance. Through awkward laughs, real-life pressure, and a caring mentor, they discover prayer is a conversation with a Father who listens, and that “praying without ceasing” can happen in everyday moments: before a test, during conflict, in anxiety, and in gratitude.
THE PRAYER CHALLENGE (15 minutes | ~2,500 words)
Cast (5 actors):
-
AYA – confident, digital-savvy, loves content and attention; not mean, just caught up
-
JACE – competitive, funny, “wins at everything,” uses humor to hide insecurity
-
LEXI – sarcastic, clever, quick with commentary; secretly wants something real
-
NOAH – thoughtful, quieter, genuine; uncomfortable with performative faith
-
MS. RIVERA – youth leader / mentor; warm, direct, relatable, not preachy
Setting: Youth room / church hall. Minimal set: a few chairs, a table, phones (real or pretend), and a poster: “YOUTH NIGHT.”
Props:
-
Phones (or phone-shaped props)
-
A small whiteboard or sign: “CHALLENGE”
-
A timer/stopwatch (phone works)
-
Optional: notebook, water bottles
Tone: Clean comedy, meaningful, youth-realistic. Prayer is treated with respect; the humor targets the misunderstanding, not God.
