Description

Summary

It’s a normal Sunday morning at church, until two overly serious “Church Licensing Department” officials barge in with clipboards, stamps, and an alarming love for paperwork. They insist they’re here to conduct a surprise compliance audit of the pastor’s sermons, prayers, and… comedic timing. The church secretary tries to be helpful, but every answer seems to generate three new forms.

The officials ask absurd questions about whether the pastor has official approval for spontaneous prayer, repeated sermon illustrations, hand gestures over 45 degrees, and “unlicensed dad jokes” during announcements. The pastor never appears on stage, keeping the humor respectful; the comedy comes from the officials’ exaggerated bureaucracy and the church’s frantic attempt to find nonexistent “licenses” for normal church things.

Theme

Grace over red tape; God works through sincerity, not paperwork.

Characters

(6 actors)

  • Narrator – guides the audience with quick, witty commentary

  • Tina – church secretary/admin, friendly but easily flustered

  • Agent Clip – licensing official #1, stern, loves rules

  • Agent Stamp – licensing official #2, intense, obsessed with forms

  • Jay – upbeat volunteer, tries to help, accidentally makes it worse

  • Optional: Deacon/Usher – can assist with bits (or Jay can do it)

When

Modern day, Sunday morning.

Props & Costumes

  • Clipboards, pens, a ridiculous stamp (or several)

  • A binder labeled “CHURCH FORMS”

  • “License” papers (blank sheets with bold titles)

  • Lanyards/badges for officials

  • A “Hand Gesture Gauge” (protractor/cardboard semicircle)

  • A small bell or buzzer for “noncompliance”

Why

1 Corinthians 14:40 – “But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.”
Order is good—but it’s not the point. The skit reminds us that church order should serve worship, not smother it.

How

Set at a church office table near the sanctuary. Pastor is offstage and never seen.

5 minutes
