Three students stay late at the public library on a rainy afternoon. The lights dim. The books on the Favorite Authors shelf begin to whisper. Four imaginary book creators step out into the reading room — Madame Story, Mister Rhyme, Captain Adventure, and Doctor Wonder — each with a different secret about reading aloud. By the time the rain stops, the children understand that reading is not a thing you do TO a book. It is a thing the book and the reader do together.
