Part 1 Script (30 minutes) — “HE WALKED AMONG US”
Total play length: 60 minutes (Part 1 + Part 2)
Style: Easter drama (brief scenes + direct-to-audience witnesses)
Cast size: Large but flexible (15–25; doubling possible)
Summary of the Whole Play (Parts 1 & 2)
This play tells the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus through a chain of witnesses who speak directly to the audience. In Part 1, the audience meets those who encountered Jesus during His ministry—Mary Magdalene, disciples, the healed, the outcast, and even a child—while resistance grows among religious leaders. Part 2 moves through trial, substitution, crucifixion, burial, and the quiet of Saturday, then proclaims resurrection through testimony: women at dawn, peace in a locked room, and doubt met with grace. The story concludes with an intergenerational chorus declaring that the Easter story is still told because its hope, forgiveness, and eternal life are still offered today.
Cast (Part 1 Focus)
NARRATOR / STORYTELLER (can be 1–2 people)
JESUS
MARY MAGDALENE
PETER
JOHN
HEALED WOMAN (woman healed by Jesus; can be “Woman With the Flow of Blood” or unnamed)
PHARISEE / RELIGIOUS LEADER
LITTLE GIRL
CHILDREN’S CHORUS (2–6 children; optional)
ENSEMBLE (disciples, crowd voices, women followers)
Doubling suggestions:
-
Ensemble members can double as crowd and followers.
-
If you want fewer actors, the Healed Woman can also be a crowd voice later; the Pharisee can be supported by another “Temple Attendant” from ensemble.
Staging Notes (Small-Church Friendly)
-
Use two zones:
-
Action Zone: short reenactments (center stage)
-
Witness Zone: direct-to-audience monologues (downstage spotlight)
-
Minimal props: shawl, simple cloth, small basket, small table, water bowl, lantern (optional).
-
Jesus’ ministry moments should be played with simplicity: a touch, a look, a line spoken clearly. No spectacle necessary.
-
Keep transitions flowing with music underscoring (optional) and narrator bridges.
