WHAT:

It’s Christmas morning and a family is cheerfully opening presents — until Mom suddenly realizes something terrible has happened: Baby Jesus is missing from their nativity set. Panic erupts as the family imagines the church Christmas program being ruined forever. They launch a frantic “Christmas Emergency Search,” complete with hilarious phone calls to the Sunday school teacher, the church janitor, and even Grandma (who is absolutely no help).
Finally, after chaos and confusion, they discover Baby Jesus behind the couch. Everyone laughs — then pauses for a quiet moment to remember how easy it is to overlook the real gift of Christmas.

THEMES:

Rediscovering what matters most · Christmas morning · Humor · Family · Nativity · Reflection

WHO (5–6 ACTORS):

  • Mom — warm, high-energy, easily flustered

  • Dad — calm but clueless; tries to help and makes it worse

  • Alex — older sibling; sarcastic and funny

  • Mia — younger sibling; dramatic, emotional, sweet

  • Grandma — over-the-top, loud, tech-confused

  • Optional Role: The Janitor or Sunday School Teacher — can be a voice offstage or spoken by someone onstage holding a phone prop

COSTUMES:

Pajamas, robes, slippers — Christmas morning style. Phone props, lunchbox, blankets, nativity set pieces.

PROPS:

Nativity scene (missing baby Jesus at first), presents, wrapping paper, phones/tablets, couch, “Christmas Emergency Hotline” list.

WHY:

To remind families that in the holiday rush — gifts, décor, programs, perfection — we often forget the heart of Christmas: Jesus.

HOW:

Use a cozy living room setup: couch, coffee table, messy gift wrap. One corner of the stage has the nativity display. When panic begins, characters race between areas. Phones may be real or mimed.

TIME:

~10 minutes
