This fun, heartfelt Christmas skit follows a group of kids decorating a Christmas tree at church when one of them finally asks, “Why do we use these ornaments?” As they joke and guess about stars, angels, and bells, they realize they don’t really understand the meaning behind the decorations. With the help of their teacher, Miss Grace, they explore how each symbol points to the true Christmas story.
Through a simple “skit within a skit” of the nativity and a short Bible lesson, the children discover that the tree is more than decoration—it’s a living object lesson about Jesus, the Savior who came for them. The skit balances light humor with reverence, making the message clear for all ages: Christmas isn’t just something we decorate; it’s Someone we welcome.

Medium Christmas tree (real or artificial) with simple lights
-
Boxes or tubs of ornaments (star, angels, bells, nativity, etc.)
-
Simple scarves/cloths to suggest Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds
-
Small box or folded cloth to represent the manger
-
A Bible on a small table
-
Optional: small handbell ornament that can ring, simple paper “star”
Why
The main Scripture used in the skit is the angel’s announcement:
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10–11)
This verse reminds us that Christmas is God bringing good news to ordinary people—that a Savior has come for “you.” The skit uses familiar symbols to show that everything about Christmas is pointing to Jesus and His saving love.
How
The stage is a simple fellowship room or classroom: a Christmas tree on one side, a small table with a Bible on the other, and space in the middle that transforms into a “stable” for the nativity scene. Minimal props and easy costumes (like scarves) keep it simple for small churches or schools.
Time
15 minutes
