Inspired by classroom talent shows, this humorous script follows six elementary students auditioning for a fictional reading competition called Reading Idol. Each contestant performs a short fluency excerpt — a tongue twister, a poem, a chapter book passage, a recipe card, a science textbook page, and one self-written piece — and three friendly judges give supportive feedback built around the pillars of fluency: expression, pacing, accuracy, and confidence.
Theme — There is no one right way to read out loud — only your way, getting better.
What you get
- Full PDF script — 8 scenes structured like a TV audition show (15 min runtime)
- Cast: 6–9 students (6 contestants + 3 judges + emcee)
- Six contrasting audition pieces each model a different fluency skill
- Built-in feedback model: every judge note begins with a specific compliment, then a single small suggestion
- Bonus encore round where the judges read pieces the contestants pick
Best for
3rd–5th grade fluency instruction, reading celebration assemblies, end-of-unit performances, parent reading nights, and any classroom that wants to model what supportive peer feedback sounds like.
