The Jordan River is jammed with people. John baptizes one after another — a Pharisee, a tax collector, a soldier, a young couple, a child afraid of the water. The crowd watches each one go under and come up. Then a delegation of priests arrives to interrogate John: "Who are you? Are you Elijah? Are you the prophet?" Mid-confrontation, Jesus walks down the bank and asks to be baptized. The dove descends. The voice from heaven speaks. Everyone falls silent.
Theme — There is no other Bible scene like this one. All three persons of the Trinity in two verses, set in the water of an ordinary river.
