Description

This 15-minute Christian skit is set in a playful “courtroom” where Christmas decorations have put the Christmas Tree on trial for “hogging all the attention.” The ornaments argue that they’re the real stars. The garland complains about being wrapped too tightly. The Star insists it deserves the top spot. The Santa Hats say everyone is taking things way too seriously.

As everyone argues and tries to prove they’re the most important, the scene becomes chaotic and ridiculous. In the middle of the noise, a Child Narrator steps in and gently reminds them that they’ve all forgotten what Christmas is really about—the birth of Jesus.

Together, they remember that their purpose is not to compete for glory, but to work in harmony to point people to Christ. They reconcile, decorate the Tree together, and end with a Bible verse about shining for God, not for themselves. It’s funny, simple to perform, and deeply meaningful for all ages.

Theme

Christmas, humility, unity, and spiritual growth – learning that our purpose is not to draw attention to ourselves, but to work together to point others to Jesus and to “shine” for God’s glory, not our own.

Characters (12-20 actors)

  • Judge Pinecone – Slightly dramatic judge, tries to stay serious

  • Bailiff Spruce – Loud, official, overly proud of “courtroom” job

  • Christmas Tree – Proud but secretly insecure, wants to hold everyone up

  • Ornament 1 – Ruby – Shiny, emotional, loves attention and compliments

  • Ornament 2 – Jasper – Tough, grumpy, thinks he should be higher on the tree

  • Ornament 3 – Belle – Jingle bell ornament, jingles too much and too often

  • Garland – Dramatic, swishy, easily offended, over-the-top emotional

  • Star – Overconfident, loves being on top, struggles with humility

  • Santa Hat 1 – Holly – Playful, fun, tries to lighten the mood

  • Santa Hat 2 – Jingles – Goofy, loud, always cracking jokes

  • Lights – A small group (3–5 kids) speaking in unison, gentle and kind

  • Stocking – Warm, caring, “homely,” sees the good in everyone

  • Gift Box 1 & 2 – Organized, bossy, like little managers

  • Child Narrator – Calm, sincere, explains the true meaning of Christmas

  • Optional Extra Decorations – Bows, Candy Canes, Snowflakes, or more ornaments

When

Modern-day Christmas season, imagined inside a decorated living room where the Christmas tree and decorations “come to life” in a playful courtroom scenario.

Props & Costumes

  • Simple “judge robe” (black cloth or robe) for Judge Pinecone

  • Small gavel (toy or wooden spoon)

  • Christmas Tree costume or green shirt with tinsel/garland

  • Ornament costumes: bright shirts, cardboard ornament shapes, glitter, etc.

  • Garland (real tinsel or long cloth)

  • Large cardboard Star worn on a headband or held

  • Santa hats

  • A few stockings (real or felt)

  • Gift box props (empty wrapped boxes)

  • Simple “CHRISTMAS DECORATION COURT” sign

  • A small manger or simple cross prop for the final reminder (optional)

Why

The skit ends with Matthew 5:16, where Jesus says that we should let our light shine so others see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven. This verse reminds the characters (and the audience) that Christmas—and our lives—are ultimately about glorifying God, not competing for attention.

How

The setting is a simple stage divided into a “courtroom” and “tree area.” One side has a small table or box as the judge’s bench with a “CHRISTMAS DECORATION COURT” sign; the other side features the “tree” and decorations. Minimal props and costumes (robes, hats, tinsel, cardboard shapes) suggest each character. For the final moment, a small manger or cross prop can be placed near the front to visually point back to Jesus.
