is a lighthearted, meaningful Christmas skit designed especially for senior actors who want to take part in a Christmas program without heavy memorization or complicated staging. Presented as a live television broadcast, the play follows a team of news anchors, field reporters, and “expert analysts” as they react in real time to breaking stories coming out of Bethlehem: a mysterious star shining over a small town, shepherds claiming to have seen angels, and wise men traveling with strange royal gifts.

With 6–8 speaking roles, flexible dialogue, and the option for actors to remain seated with scripts in hand, this skit is perfect for church services, retirement communities, and intergenerational Christmas events. Gentle humor blends with reverent moments as the “Good News Network” gradually realizes that the biggest headline of the night is the birth of Jesus Christ. Anchored around Luke 2:10—“Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy…”—The Christmas News Report reminds audiences that God’s good news still reaches us today, even when the world feels chaotic, confusing, or overwhelmed by other “breaking news.”

Setting

A simple “TV studio” can be created with:

  • A table or two side-by-side for Grace and Ben (ANCHORS).

  • A smaller side table or podium for Ruth (STAR ANALYST).

  • Chairs on the other side of the stage for Sam, Eli, and Mel during interviews.

  • A sign or banner that reads: “Good News Network” or “Bethlehem Breaking News”.

Microphones, mugs, clipboards, and papers can be simple props. If you have a screen or poster, you can change small signs to show “LIVE FROM BETHLEHEM,” “STAR WATCH,” etc.
