A Gentle, Musical Christmas Program for Preschoolers

The Christmas Gifts We Bring is a heartwarming two-part preschool Christmas program that helps young children understand the true meaning of Christmas by offering simple, meaningful “gifts” to Jesus. Through songs, motions, storytelling, and hands-on participation, preschoolers discover that the greatest gift they can give Jesus is their hearts.

What the Program Includes

Part 1 – Onstage Christmas Gifts 

A full 30-minute musical-style skit where preschoolers bring symbolic gifts to baby Jesus:

• Kindness (hugs or gentle touches)

• Joy (big smiles and cheerful motions)

• Love (heart props)

• Sharing (open-hand gestures)

• Praise (hands lifted high)

The play features:

• Classic Christmas carols

• Sweet narration

• Simple costumes and props

• Moments for young children to shine with confidence

• A living nativity finale gathered around the manger

This part helps preschoolers understand that even the smallest actions—kindness, joy, love—are gifts fit for a King.

The Gifts Go Home 

A beautiful follow-up mini-program that shows how the gifts can continue in daily life.

Families watch as children practice:

• Kindness in conflict

• Joy even on hard days

• Sharing toys

• Praise and gratitude

• A closing blessing around the manger

THE CHRISTMAS GIFTS WE BRING

A Gentle Musical Nativity for Preschoolers 

CAST (FLEXIBLE FOR 10–20 PRESCHOOLERS)

• Narrator – older child, teen, or adult; calmly guides the story.

• Worship Leader – older child/teen/adult; helps lead songs and motions.

• Mary – preschooler.

• Joseph – preschooler.

• Angel 1 – preschooler.

• Angel 2–4 – optional preschoolers, “angel choir.”

• Shepherd 1, Shepherd 2 – preschoolers.

• Sheep – any number of preschoolers with simple ears/headbands.

• Wise Person 1, Wise Person 2, Wise Person 3 – preschoolers (wise men or wise women).

• Gift Child – Kindness – preschooler.

• Gift Child – Joy – preschooler.

• Gift Child – Love – preschooler.

• Gift Child – Sharing – preschooler.

• Gift Child – Praise – preschooler.

• Extra Preschoolers – can be part of the “gift kids,” stable animals, star carriers, or small choir.

Note: Many parts can double. For example, a “Gift Child” can also be a sheep or an angel in earlier scenes.

PROPS & SIMPLE SET

• Small manger with baby doll (Jesus).

• Simple costumes: robe/scarf for Mary, robe for Joseph, halos/wings for angels, tea towels for shepherds, headbands/ears for sheep, simple crowns or shiny headbands for wise people.

• Heart-shaped props (paper, foam, or fabric) – enough for each child if possible.

• Small gift boxes (can be empty) with ribbons.

• Simple “star” on a stick for a star carrier.

• A few soft stage lights or twinkle lights for “starry night” effect.

• Optional: bench or simple “house” area for Nazareth and Bethlehem.

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS (DIRECTOR MAY CHOOSE)

• Short versions or a verse/chorus of:

• “Away in a Manger”

• “Silent Night”

• “Joy to the World”

• “O Come, All Ye Faithful”

• One simple original refrain you can easily teach:

• “We bring gifts to Jesus,
  Gifts of love and cheer.
  We bring gifts to Jesus,
  ‘Cause Jesus’ love is near.”

(You can repeat this refrain between scenes.)
