A Christmas Comedy for Senior Choirs

Genre: Christmas Comedy / Church Play

Length: ~15 minutes

Cast: 6–10 seniors

Summary

The Choir That Forgot the Words follows a lovable senior choir preparing for their Christmas Eve performance. But each rehearsal falls into hilarious chaos. Someone confidently starts singing Jingle Bells when everyone else begins Silent Night. Another insists on performing an original song she wrote in 1973 and “has been waiting 50 years to debut.” Meanwhile, one bass vocalist insists the nativity absolutely requires a dramatic bass solo, whether anyone agrees or not.

Despite mistakes, laughter, misplaced sheet music, and a few friendly disagreements, something deeper begins to shine. The choir director gently guides them toward the truth: Christmas is not about perfect pitch — it’s about praising God with joyful hearts.

This warm, funny, and heartfelt skit gives seniors a chance to shine without memorizing long lines, using simple dialogue, familiar carol snippets, and plenty of laughter.

Moral Lesson: Worship is not about perfect voices, but about hearts that lift praise to God.

Bible Verse: “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.” — Psalm 100:1

Deep bass singer convinced that every song needs more bass.

Bernice

Choir member who constantly loses her sheet music — even if she’s holding it.

Clara

Retired songwriter who insists the choir should perform her forgotten 1973 composition.

Optional Extras:

Additional singers who chime in for group lines or musical chaos.

Setting

A simple church fellowship hall. Folding chairs arranged in rows. Music stands with mismatched hymn books. A small decorated Christmas tree in the corner. A table with snacks — mostly cookies and coffee.

A hand-painted sign reads:

“Christmas Eve Choir Rehearsal — One Last Practice (Hopefully)”

Soft Christmas instrumental music plays as the lights rise.
