The Bethlehem Weather Report
Description
WHAT
A comedic “live news broadcast” from ancient Bethlehem, featuring an anchor, a weather reporter, a census correspondent, and a sports reporter. As they try to provide updates on the unusual events happening the night Jesus was born, the humor builds—unexpected “glory storms,” shepherds sprinting like Olympic athletes, and wild confusion over the bright star overhead. Suddenly, a BREAKING NEWS alert reveals the birth of Jesus. For the first time, the news crew becomes serious as they realize they’re reporting the most important story in history.
THEME
The birth of Jesus is the greatest news the world has ever received.
WHO
Anchor – confident, dramatic, slightly overwhelmed
Weather Reporter – easily panicked, carries umbrella
Census Correspondent – knowledgeable but sarcastic
Sports Reporter – high-energy, announces everything like a tournament highlight
HOW
Set the stage as a simple news studio using chairs and microphones. One side of the stage becomes the “field” for the weather and sports segments. The humor comes from treating ancient events like modern news reports while still arriving at the truth of the nativity story.
PROPS
Microphone (real or paper), scroll, umbrella, star cutout (optional).
TIME
~5 minutes
