WHAT:
A team of energetic kid-reporters in a playful “Bethlehem News” studio scrambles to cover breaking news about the birth of Jesus. With mixed-up cue cards, confusing notes, paper-towel microphones, and a livestream that keeps “buffering,” the reporters interview shepherds, Mary and Joseph, wise men, and curious villagers. Amid the chaos of silly misunderstandings—like calling the wise men “weather men” and assuming the angel is a “sky reporter”—the team slowly pieces together the true story of the first Christmas and learns how to share good news with others.
THEME:
Sharing the good news of Jesus with joy—even when everything feels mixed-up.
WHO (CAST):
Lead Reporter
Reporter 2 (mixes up facts)
Reporter 3 (very shy, always checking “Microsoft Edge”)
Angel Interviewee
Shepherd Interviewee(s)
Mary and Joseph
Wise Men (or “Weather Men”)
Optional Villagers or Camera Crew
HOW (STAGING & STYLE):
Create a simple kid-newsroom with a cardboard “camera,” cue cards, stools, and a large “Bethlehem News” banner. Reporters move between the “studio” and “field,” sometimes running in urgently with breaking updates. Encourage playful confusion, exaggerated line reading, and adorable misunderstandings. The tone shifts gently from silly chaos to warm understanding as the reporters finally uncover the heart of Christmas.
PROPS:
Paper towel roll microphones
Cardboard “camera”
Cue cards
Clipboards with scribbled notes
“Bethlehem News” banner
Simple costumes for shepherds, wise men, and Mary/Joseph
