What
Roman Guards: Night Shift at the Tomb is a humorous Readers Theater skit that imagines what it might have been like for the Roman guards assigned to watch Jesus’ tomb. Tired, bored, and overconfident, the guards treat their assignment like any other routine night shift—completely unprepared for Resurrection Sunday.
Theme
Human authority vs. God’s power.
Routine vs. resurrection.
Certainty shattered by truth.
Who
Two Roman guards on duty, a third guard or narrator who adds commentary, and optional supporting voices (chief priest or narrator). The guards are ordinary, relatable, and comedic—making the miracle that interrupts their night all the more powerful.
How
Readers Theater format: actors hold scripts, minimal blocking, expressive voices. Humor builds through banter and sarcasm, then halts abruptly when God acts.
