This skit retells Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son in a way that blends humor with deep emotion. The younger son is restless, frustrated with his quiet village life, and convinced that freedom means getting away from his father and brother. He demands his inheritance, wastes it in a “far country,” and winds up feeding pigs and starving.
As he hits rock bottom, the younger son remembers the kindness of his father and decides to return—not as a son, but as a servant. Meanwhile, the father never stops watching the road and runs to welcome him home with joy and celebration. The older brother struggles with jealousy and self-righteousness, revealing another kind of distance from the father. The skit closes with a clear invitation: God is like the father in this story—ready to forgive, restore, and welcome anyone who turns back to Him.
Theme
God’s forgiving love and grace toward repentant hearts.

When
Biblical times, as Jesus originally told the parable, but with simple, relatable language.
Props & Costumes
-
Simple robes or tunics for all main characters
-
Coins (can be fake) in a small pouch or bowl
-
Small bags or cloth bundles for “travel”
-
A stick or simple farming tool for the Farmer
-
Optional: a small bucket or container to represent pig food
Why
The skit highlights Romans 5:8, which says that God shows His love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Just like the father in the parable runs to meet his broken son and goes out to plead with his angry son, God reaches out to both the obviously lost and the secretly proud.
How
Use a simple stage with two main areas:
-
One side is the family courtyard (Father, Older Son, and Servant).
-
The other side is the far country (Friends and Farmer).
Lighting and simple movement can show changes between scenes. No complex props are needed—focus on the dialogue and emotion.
