Summary
A youth group planning meeting turns into a comedic showdown when someone brings in a massive “Topical Index of Faith,” as if spiritual growth can be organized like a searchable menu. The teens flip through categories like Prayer, Service, Trust, and Obedience, debating which topics are “relevant” and which ones are “too intense.” Some want lessons that feel encouraging and easy, like a warm blanket. Others try to dodge anything uncomfortable by calling it “not aesthetic” or “too much effort.” The jokes come fast, but the questions underneath are real: Do we only listen to God when it’s convenient? Do we treat the Bible like a vending machine?
As the teens continue to skip the challenging sections, the youth leader intervenes and reframes the entire conversation: biblical topics aren’t chosen for comfort, they’re chosen for growth. God’s truth applies to anxiety, friendships, and school stress, but it also applies to repentance, forgiveness, obedience, service, and trust. The group realizes faith isn’t selective; it shapes every part of life. By the end, they stop using the index as a shield and start using it as a mirror, choosing “All of it,” not because it’s easy, but because it’s true.
