From Palms to the Upper Room - Short Easter Plays for Church

Summary:

This Easter drama follows Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and the conversations that follow. Crowds shout “Hosanna!”, some hearts burn with hope, others harden with fear, and the disciples dream of glory without fully understanding the cross ahead. The scenes move from the noisy street into a quieter hillside, ending with Jesus sending His disciples to prepare the Upper Room—inviting the audience to follow Him from public praise toward deeper obedience.

• JUDAS – Outwardly composed; inwardly conflicted.

• LEVI – Excited believer in the crowd; full of hope.

• HADASSAH – Spiritually hungry, torn between faith and fear.

• BEN – Skeptical, practical; represents weary realism.

• RELIGIOUS LEADER 1 & 2 – Priests/Pharisees; threatened by Jesus’ influence.

SET & PROPS

Jerusalem Street / City Gate:

• Simple backdrop or flats suggesting buildings/gate.

• A few crates or stools for market feel (optional).

• Palm branches.

• A few cloaks/outer garments to throw on the ground.

Quiet Hillside / Outside City:

• Same stage, but with lighting shift and possibly a couple of olive branches or small props to suggest a different location.
