Description

This modern drama blends two worlds: present-day adults trying to make sense of Easter amid candy, brunch plans, and social media noise, and biblical witnesses stepping forward with firsthand testimony. The modern characters are sincere but distracted, shaped by an internet pace that demands instant explanations. One jokes about eggs and the Easter bunny; another scrolls on a phone and says, “I saw a TikTok – make it make sense.” Their conversation is familiar: faith reduced to vibes, tradition, and seasonal aesthetics, until the narrator interrupts, grounding the moment in Scripture and re-centering the meaning of the resurrection.

As the narrator reads brief New Testament anchors, three biblical voices enter: Mary Magdalene, a Roman soldier, and a religious leader. Each tells the story from their vantage point, not as a debate to win but as a truth to face. The juxtaposition reveals that while culture changes, language, attention spans, and holiday customs do, the core event does not. The skit gradually shifts from casual commentary to direct confrontation with the question Easter asks every generation: not “Is it trending?” but “Will you respond?” The ending turns outward to the audience: “What will Easter mean to you?”

Theme

The story hasn’t changed, but our response still matters.

Characters

(6-8 actors)

  • Narrator – interrupts to ground the skit in Scripture; calm authority

  • Ava – modern adult; humorous; loves holiday aesthetics

  • Drew – modern adult; skeptical but curious; scrolls on phone

  • Nina – modern adult; thoughtful; quietly longing for meaning

  • Mary Magdalene – biblical witness; emotionally honest; steady

  • Roman Soldier – biblical witness; restrained; factual; shaken

  • Religious Leader – biblical voice; defensive, conflicted; controlled

When

Modern day, with biblical flash-voices stepping into the present.

Props & Costumes

  • Smartphone (for Drew)

  • Small basket of plastic eggs or candy (for Ava)

  • Coffee cups / takeout bag (modern setting)

Why

1 Corinthians 15:3–4 – Christ died, was buried, and was raised. Easter calls for a response, not just a seasonal routine.

How

Split-stage feel without moving sets: modern group downstage; biblical witnesses step into a lit “testimony” spot when speaking. The narrator can stand center with a Bible.
