A Fresh Way to Celebrate the First Christmas
Description
A Fresh Way to Celebrate the First Christmas retells the nativity story using a simple change-of-scenery style, making it flexible for churches and children’s ministries with limited stage space. The play moves smoothly between Nazareth, Bethlehem, the shepherds’ hillside, and the manger scene, giving every group of children a moment to participate.
The script includes three narrative voices that weave together:
-
Narrator – guides the story clearly
-
Child Reader – reads Old Testament prophecies that point to Jesus
-
Angel of the Lord – reenacts the heavenly announcements
The story follows Mary and Joseph from the angel’s visit to the journey to Bethlehem, the birth of Jesus, the shepherds’ encounter with angels, and finally the arrival of the wise men. This script is reverent, flexible, and ideal for churches seeking a meaningful but simple Christmas presentation.
Optional carols can be added between scenes, such as:
-
O Come, O Come Emmanuel
-
Away in a Manger
-
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
-
Silent Night
-
O Come, All Ye Faithful
