WHAT:
A readers’ theater retelling of the biblical nativity story. Students narrate and voice the events surrounding the birth of Jesus—Mary and Joseph’s journey, the angels’ announcement, the shepherds’ visit, and the wise men following the star. The focus is on clear reading, shared storytelling, and honoring Scripture through student voices.
THEME:
Remembering the true story of the first Christmas and celebrating Jesus as God’s greatest gift.
WHO / CAST:
6–12 readers
(Narrators, Mary, Joseph, Shepherds, Angel, Wise Men — roles may be doubled or divided.)
PROPS:
None required.
Optional: star cutout, small cloth piece, or simple symbol for the manger.
Students hold scripts; no memorization needed.
HOW:
Readers stand in a semicircle and speak their lines in turn. Narrators guide the storyline, and characters add simple dialogue. Minimal movement keeps the performance accessible for all reading levels. Works well in classrooms, church programs, Las Posadas units, or mixed-ability groups.
TIME:
6–8 minutes depending on pacing.
