WHAT
A warm, lightly humorous Christmas object-lesson skit in which one shepherd uses three simple objects—straw, cloth, and wood—to explain the meaning of the first Christmas to his friends. Younger children act out motions while older children speak, making this skit flexible for small churches or classrooms.
THEME
Small things can tell big truths about Jesus.
WHO (4–6 actors)
-
Shepherd Ezra – cheerful, a bit scattered, leads the object lesson
-
Shepherd Micah – curious, asks many questions
-
Shepherd Leah – sincere, thoughtful
-
Narrator – older child or adult, guides the story
-
Optional Shepherds – 1–2 younger kids for simple actions (no memorization)
HOW
Staged simply with shepherds sitting around a “campfire” or cluster of hay. The narrator stands to the side. Ezra pulls objects from a small cloth bag one by one and explains them, with gentle humor, while the narrator ties each to the biblical Christmas story.

A handful of straw
-
A piece of cloth (soft or white)
